In recent years many colleges nationwide have been adding separate online divisions to increase enrollment numbers. At CCV online learning began 15 years ago, and the growth of online course offerings has been an organic process, developed in response to the college’s mission of making affordable, quality education accessible to all Vermonters. Today, CCV is the largest provider of undergraduate online courses in Vermont, offering nearly 300 sections online, with 170 instructors teaching in the spring and fall terms.
Online courses at CCV are fully integrated into the two-year academic planning cycle, and incorporate the features most valued by our students: small (12-18 students), interactive, discussion-based classes enhanced by additional academic support. The college has developed an intensive “high tech/high touch” teaching program for online faculty that is now used to train online instructors for other organizations throughout the state – including high school teachers and faculty at our sister institutions in the Vermont State Colleges system.
To celebrate this fifteenth anniversary Online Learning Services is adopting a new name: The Center for Online Learning (CCV-Online for short). It joins the 12 other newly-renamed CCV academic centers across the state.
