Community College of Vermont to Hold 51st Commencement on June 2 in Northfield

May 17, 2018 by Katie Keszey

MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Community College of Vermont (CCV) will hold its 51st commencement ceremony at Norwich University’s Shapiro Field House in Northfield, Vermont on Saturday, June 2. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m.

This year, over 500 students will be awarded associate degrees. Students representing all 14 Vermont counties will be graduating, along with students from 11 other states and 15 countries. Also among the graduates are 62 veteran and military-connected students. The youngest graduate is 17 and the oldest is 73.

The College is pleased to announce that Jen Kimmich, CEO of The Alchemist Brewery, will deliver this year’s commencement address. Kimmich is active in a number of local organizations, including Main Street Alliance Vermont, the Workforce Development Board, and the Vermont Public Interest Research Group. She is also co-founder of The Alchemist Foundation, which aims to expand educational opportunities for Vermont youth.

The student speaker is Trevor Farr, who attended the College’s Middlebury academic center. Farr is graduating with an A.S. in STEM studies, and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree at the University of Vermont.

Retired Vermont State Colleges System Board of Trustees Chair Martha O’Connor will receive the 2018 Community Service Award. O’Connor is a lifelong educator and advocate whose work has had a profound influence in the Brattleboro area as well as statewide.

CCV-Morrisville faculty member Greg Stefanski will receive the 2018 Faculty Community Service Award. Stefanski is executive director of Laraway Youth and Family Services, which offers a wide spectrum of support services for children and families in Lamoille County.

CCV President Joyce Judy will officiate the event. Governor Phil Scott and members of the Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees will be in attendance.
