With just one week to go in the spring semester, CCV is gearing up for graduation! We’ll celebrate the class of 2018 at this year’s commencement on Saturday, June 2 at Norwich University.   • Winooski Coordinators of Academic Services Tuipate Mubiay, Angie Albeck, and Kate Maynard participated in the Peace and Justice Center’s Social Justice Symposium at Burlington High School on April 14th, where they promoted CCV and the CCV-Winooski Conversation Partners Program. The Conversation Partners Program helps ELL students integrate into the new American and college cultures through developing English skills, forming relationships with native English speakers, and participating in CCV cultural events.
  • Faculty member Shawn Kerivan served as visiting professor of writing during the Savannah College of Art and Design’s winter quarter in Lacoste, France, where he taught travel writing and storytelling. Kerivan teaches English Composition and Technical Writing & Research online.
  • Faculty member Alice Leeds’s essay “Lessons of a father’s unknown past” was published in the “Ways of Seeing” column of the Addison Independent. The essay appeared in the March 22 issue. Leeds teaches English Composition in Winooski.
  • Faculty member David Tomasi received one of the first Medical Center Foundation grants from the UVM Medical Center to research the benefits of exercise for patients in the psychiatry unit. Tomasi teaches social sciences in Winooski.
  • CCV-Winooski held its 18th annual International Food Festival on April 17th. Students and staff prepared traditional dishes from countries around the world. Check out the full story, including a video!
  • CCV centers throughout the state participated in Wellness Week April 2 – 6. From St. Johnsbury to Bennington, staff and students hosted sit-ins, speaker series, film screenings, and more. Check out this video about activities in Rutland and Winooski.
  • The CCV Community Chorus gave its spring performance on April 27th and 28th. The dynamic and entertaining ensemble of more than 50 performed a range of songs under the direction of faculty member Amity Baker. The events also featured the CCV Audition Chorus, The Larks, and CCV-Winooski’s Guitar 1 class.
  • Winooski faculty member Paul D’Amboise was interviewed in the Montreal current affairs show City Life about First Nations land claims. D’Amboise teaches Native American History and Cultures, as well as other courses in history and geography. He is working on a PhD focused on Quebec history at Concordia University in Montreal.
  • Members of CCV’s workforce, marketing, and secondary education teams attended a town hall with Senator Bernie Sanders at Spaulding High School on April 23rd. The event included a panel discussion with local business owners and a conversation with Central Vermont Career Center students about post-high school training and employment opportunities.
  • Faculty member Samn Stockwell’s poem “The Fifth Winter of My Grandmother” appeared in the current issue of Poet Lore. In March, her poem “Self-Portrait” appeared in WomenArts Quarterly Journal. Stockwell teaches Dimensions in Montpelier.
  • CCV-Rutland hosted its spring Cafe CCV, a showcase of student artwork, on Friday, April 27th. Students displayed work from Intro to Jewelry, Adobe Creative Cloud, Ceramics, and Pastels. Check out the slideshow!
