  • Winooski coordinator of academic services Ashraf Alamatouri is the third recipient of UVM’s Robert and Donald Carlson Doctoral Scholarship, which supports doctoral candidates who plan to serve as leaders in preK-12 settings. He is a candidate in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program.
  • Faculty member James Crews’s poetry anthology, Healing the Divide: Poems of Kindness and Connection, is forthcoming next spring from Green Writers Press. The book is co-edited with former poet laureate Ted Kooser. Crews teaches English courses in Bennington.
  • Alumnus Justin Bourdeau joined the CCV staff as a student resource advisor and financial aid counselor at the Morrisville academic center. Bourdeau graduated in 2017 with a degree in business. As a student, he served as a mentor in the Man Up program, was awarded a Leadership Scholarship, and studied abroad in France.
  • Faculty member Pam Monder completed the Phi Theta Kappa Five-Star Advisor Plan, a professional development training for PTK advising. Monder is the faculty advisor for CCV’s chapter of PTK, the national honor society for community college students. Monder also serves as the Vermont Representative to the New England Region Board of Advisors. She was inspired to complete the training after attending PTK’s New England Region fall conference at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA.
  • Faculty member Diana Whitney’s op-ed, “The ‘Animal House’ culture at Dartmouth – then and now” was published in The Boston Globe on December 12. The essay addresses the recent sexual harassment lawsuit at Dartmouth College. Whitney teaches writing classes in Brattleboro.
  • Several academic centers celebrated student artwork from the fall semester. Montpelier held a showcase from photography, drawing, and jewelry classes; in Rutland, a mini Cafe CCV welcomed the community to enjoy work from photography and stained glass, and in Bennington, the Brown Cow Cafe hosted a CCV drawing exhibition.
