  • CCV alumna Chrystal Bean received the Leonard A. Johnson Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 for her studies next year. She graduated from CCV in the spring of 2019 and is now entering her second year at Castleton University, where she’s pursuing a bachelor of art in Art Studio.
  • Former CCV faculty member Catherin Frank’s book A Kayaker’s Guide to Lake Champlain: Exploring the New York, Vermont & Quebec Shores was re-released as an updated and expanded second edition this summer. Frank co-wrote the book with friend Margaret Holden about their journey kayaking all of Lake Champlain.
  • CCV students Maija Chamberlain and Kaleigh Nutting were the recipients of this year’s Alumni Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to graduates planning to continue their education at a 4-year college or university. Maija graduated from CCV-Middlebury with a degree in human services. She plans to transfer to Northern Vermont University (NVU) to study psychology. Kaleigh was a dual enrollment and Early College student at CCV before completing her associate degree. She plans to attend NVU to complete her bachelor’s degree.
  • The Brattleboro branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) awarded a $1,000 scholarship to previous CCV student Kimberly Day. She began nursing studies at CCV and worked at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital before starting school at Greenfield Community College where she is pursuing an associate degree in nursing. This scholarship helps to “promote equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.”
  • CCV early childhood education student Emily Mulherin was awarded a scholarship from the Brattleboro Rotary Club Gateway Foundation. The $2,500 Jesse M. Corum IV Scholarship is usually given to a medical assisting student, but this year the Foundation wanted to focus on childcare. Mulherin currently works as an assistant teacher in the infant room at the Brattleboro Centre for Children.
  • CCV-Rutland faculty member Susannah Gravel is working with the Chaffee Art Center in Rutland to showcase student work. As a result of COVID-19, the Painting I and II class she taught this spring was moved online. “Thankfully we had a really strong community so we thrived online,” she shared in an email. “We started a Facebook group that as of today is still actively sharing new paintings with each other.” The art center will showcase her students’ work this summer at their annual student art show, which runs from July 31 to September 1.
