The holiday season has begun and CCV centers around Vermont have started to celebrate! Here’s the latest roundup of news and announcements from students, faculty, and staff. Happy reading, and don’t forget to share your own Notables with us by emailing marketing@ccv.edu!

  • CCV-Morrisville hosted “Haunting for Hunger” on October 25, showcasing haunted houses, face painting, and games. Admission for the event was one or more non-perishable food item for the Lamoille Community Food Share. CCV staff dressed for the occasion alongside over 100 visitors and raised nearly $400 in food donations.
  • CCV-Upper Valley participated in a local “Trunk-or-Treat” hosted by the Hartford Parks and Recreation Department on October 26. Staff decorated a car trunk with skulls, bones, and beakers from the lab and handed out candy and CCV swag to over 700 trick-or-treaters of all ages. Many current CCV students were in attendance with their families.
  • The first annual Community Chili Cook-off took place at CCV-Winooski this week, with entries from students and staff. Prizes were given for Best Traditional, Most Unique, Vegetarian, and Spiciest.
  • Coordinator of Student Advising and Veteran and Military Resource Advisor Marty McMahon is staying active in the community and will be teaching a course in Military Literature at Norwich University. Additionally, McMahon is leading a veterans reading group at NVU-Lyndon through the Vermont Humanities Council.
  • Congressman Peter Welch visited CCV-Montpelier on October 9 as part of the Congress on your Campus tour. Welch spoke to staff, faculty, and students from four different classes on the topic of income inequality. Students and faculty also had an opportunity to discuss a variety of topics with Welch during this visit.
  • CCV staff from around the state came together at CCV-Winooski on October 4 for Staff Day. Maria Mercedes Avila, PhD, MSW was the guest speaker for the day, and engaged staff in a presentation titled “Equity and Inclusion: Culturally Responsive Practice in Higher Education.” Staff also received service awards for 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 year of service at CCV. In total, 32 staff received awards this year.
  • CCV-Bennington student Jennifer Ryan has been hired as the new library director of the Solomon Wright Public Library. Ryan was previously the co-librarian of the Stamford Community Library. Enrolled as a part-time student seeking an associate degree in business, Ryan is also enrolled in the Vermont Department of Libraries’ Certificate of Public Librarianship Program.
  • Three CCV students received scholarships from the Benningington Branch of the American Association of University Women. The recipients are Wendy Lyons, Desiree Walizer, and Cassandra Furciniti. This scholarship provides assistance to women enrolled in college who have a non-traditional path. This scholarship has been awarded to 39 women studying at CCV in the past 11 years.
