When CCV-Rutland Instructor and Learning Center Coordinator Pam Monder opened Rutland’s first learning center in 2007, she shared a classroom with others, setting out materials each time she opened, and packing them back up when she closed. That first semester she and four tutors served 127 students. During the fall 2011 semester, Monder and her staff, which includes 11 peer tutors, served 594 students. She now has three work-study students on her peer-tutoring team.
“We’ve managed to put together a good team of people with a good balance of skills,” she said. “Now we’re focusing on getting students to know we are here, to understand what we can provide for them.”
With the opening of the spring 2012 semester, Monder and her staff are welcoming students to a brightly lit, large open space with more computers, two small private rooms for quiet study, an adjoining computer lab, and individual and large table clusters.
