Tuipate Mubiay, coordinator of academic services ELL at CCV-Winooski has been collecting stars lately. Earlier this year he received a Rising Star Young Alumni award from Johnson State College, and on April 4, 2012 he received a 2012 New England Educational Opportunity Association (NEOA) Rising Star Award at an Achiever Luncheon featuring a keynote by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
The NEOA award honors emerging leaders who devote time and energy to their community in a meaningful way and serve as a role model for low income, first generation, college bound students and students with disabilities. Mubiay co-founded the Association of Africans Living in Vermont, a community organization serving more than 3,000 people. He has served on the Visiting Nurse Association board of directors, as vice president of the board of the Vermont chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and is a board member of the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity.
